HBO's newest series is placing the Philadelphia suburbs in the spotlight once more.
Task, starring Mark Ruffalo and set in and around Delaware County, debuted on Sunday, Sept. 7, on HBO. The series revolves around Ruffalo's character, FBI agent Tom Brandis, and the special task force he heads to investigate robberies at drug houses in Delaware County.
Brad Ingelsby, a Berwyn native, is the writer and producer of Task. He also wrote and produced HBO's award-winning series Mare of Easttown.
A graduate of Archbishop John Carroll High School and Villanova University, Ingelsby's connection to Delaware County helped him with the details while writing about the people and places of Delco, Chesco, Montco, Philly, and along the Main Line.
According to The Patch of Tredyffrin-Easttown , several locations were used for shooting scenes in Task. They include Aston, Chadds Ford, the Delaware County Courthouse in Media, Edgmont, Ridley, and Wissahickon Valley Park in Philadelphia.
The production team brought back the same costumers and production design team from Mare of Easttown. As viewers tune in to Task as the series progresses, they'll notice several distinctive Philly-area objects in the scenes, such as Wawa cups, Yuengling bottles, familiar exits off roadways, and the former Philadelphia Police headquarters.
"I really like where I live. I like the people," Ingelsby told the Patch's Max Bennett during a telephone interview. "There's a quiet heroism in them. People think [working class people] are one thing, but they're many things who aspire to have different experiences, who have deep conversations, who reflect on life, and who have regrets."
Catch Task at 9 p.m. Sundays on HBO.
