Philadelphia’s most chilling Halloween tradition is back, and it’s bigger than ever! Halloween Nights at Eastern State Penitentiary kicks off its 2025 season on Friday, September 19, running select nights through November 8. One of the most anticipated haunted experiences in the nation, this massive festival transforms the historic ten-acre former prison into an immersive world with haunted houses, scare zones, performances, themed bars, and much more.
Tickets are available now, and with this year’s expanded attractions and redesigned event flow, Halloween Nights promises to be an unforgettable fall highlight.
What’s New for 2025
The Eastern State team has gone all out this year, introducing new haunted attractions, immersive storylines, and bigger sets than ever before:
- Dark Tides: A brand-new haunted house that drops you into a deserted fishing village. Things aren’t what they seem as an eerie force rises from beneath the docks.
- Apocalypse Pass: An outdoor scare zone where containment has failed and chaos reigns. This gritty, tension-filled environment ensures scares around every corner.
- Enhanced Set Design: Detailed environments and cinematic staging raise the bar for immersion across the penitentiary grounds.
- Signature Characters: More performers bring the story of Shadow of the Veil to life, tying attractions into one larger narrative.
- Redesigned Event Flow: Instead of waiting in line after line, guests will move seamlessly through four acts—two guided, two open exploration—creating a smoother, more immersive journey through the site.
More Than Just Haunted Houses
Halloween Nights at Eastern State Penitentiary isn’t only about scares—it’s also about the full festival experience. This year’s food and drink lineup is expanding in delicious ways. Returning favorites like Triple Bottom Brewing and Down North Pizza will be joined by Bao & Bun Studio, Corneey’s Corn on the Cob and Gourmet Popcorn, plus Hardy Funnel Cakes. Between haunted attractions, guests can fuel up on Philly food, grab a craft beer, or enjoy themed cocktails in spooky bars scattered around the penitentiary.
For thrill-seekers looking for something extra, the festival brings back its popular “opt-in” intense experience. Guests wearing a glow necklace may be grabbed, sent into hidden passageways, or even separated from their group for a more extreme scare.
A Night of Frights with Purpose
Halloween Nights isn’t just scream-worthy entertainment—it also plays a key role in supporting Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site. Proceeds from the event fund critical preservation projects, educational programming, and workforce development. Last year, more than half of visitors reported walking away with new insight into America’s criminal justice system, making this night of fright both fun and meaningful.
Plan Your Visit
With new haunted houses, bigger scares, and smoother flow, Halloween Nights 2025 is shaping up to be the most ambitious season yet. Whether you’re returning for the tradition or experiencing it for the first time, this year promises to thrill from the moment you step through Eastern State’s gates.
