Big Dom, a beloved yet controversial figure within the Philadelphia Eagles organization, has been fined $75,000 by the NFL for texting from the team's bench area, according to Derrick Gunn. The texting incident occurred during a preseason game against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
According to USA TODAY, the Eagles appealed the fine, arguing that he had only one foot in the bench area, but the NFL denied the appeal. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo provided some additional context behind why the team's appeal was denied.
"The #Eagles' appeal, I'm told, was he had only one foot in the bench area. Apparently, five toes was enough. Fine levied," Garafolo reported.
The Eagles also received another fine from the NFL. Running back Saquon Barkley was fined $46,371 for lowering his helmet during a second-quarter run against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Sept. 14.
DiSandro's fine isn't the only one he's ever received. In 2023, the NFL fined him $100,000 after a sideline altercation involving former San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw. He was also prohibited from being on the sidelines for the remainder of the season.
DiSandro, 46, has been with the Eagles since 1999 and holds multiple roles, including chief security officer, senior advisor to the general manager, and director of gameday coaching operations. He is highly regarded among players and staff.
Despite DiSandro's and Barkley's fines, the Eagles are flying high on a strong start to the season. The Birds are 3-0 after defeating the Los Angeles Rams 33-26 on Sunday, Sept. 21.
