PennDOT has announced overnight construction on I-95 in Northeast Philadelphia to implement a new traffic pattern at the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange.
From Monday, Sept. 22, through Friday, Sept. 26, double lane closures will be in place on southbound I-95 during the overnight hours between the Allegheny Avenue and Cottman Avenue interchanges for shoulder reconstruction. Additionally, from Tuesday, Sept. 23, through Friday, Sept. 26, a double left lane closure will be in place on northbound I-95 for barrier work.
Beginning today, Tuesday, Sept. 23, northbound I-95 will shift into a new long-term configuration. This adjustment will reduce travel to three lanes during peak hours through the construction zone, according to MyChesCo.
The construction work is part of PennDOT's $355.3 million I-95/BR3 project to widen and rebuild a section of I-95 between Wheatsheaf Lane and the area north of Margaret Street.
PennDOT is urging travelers to plan ahead, expect delays, and consider alternate routes due to the ongoing construction.
