One New Jersey tavern has been named one of the most historic bars in America.

The Yankee Doodle Tap Room, located inside the Nassau Inn in Princeton, New Jersey, has been recognized as one of America's top 25 most historic bars by Historic Hotels of America.

Nestled in the heart of downtown Princeton on Palmer Square, the Nassau Inn offers several dining and lodging specials for travelers. The Nassau Inn, established in 1756, played a significant role in American history. During the Revolutionary War, the inn hosted local Committee of Safety meetings and served as a strategic location for prominent figures, including George Washington.

The Nassau Inn was inducted into the Historic Hotels of America in 2024. While the structure has undergone renovation over the years, it retains its historical characteristics from before the country's founding. Guests can book their stay on the hotel's website.

The Yankee Doodle Tap Room is notable for its historic associations, including Norman Rockwell's 13-foot mural depicting Yankee Doodle during the American Revolution. There's also a wooden tabletop on which Albert Einstein carved his name.

The Yankee Doodle Tap Room offers American pub classics daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch.

Other historic inns in New Jersey include the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn & Tavern, which reopened in 2009 after being initially built in the 1790s, as well as the Black Horse Tavern & Pub in Mendham, the Clinton House in Clinton, and the Bernards Inn in Bernardsville.
