McMillan's Bakery, a Haddon Township, South Jersey, icon that operated for nearly 90 years before closing in May, will reopen on Feb. 2, 2026.

The reopening was made possible after the owner of another South Jersey bakery partnered with the grandson of the legendary bakery's founders to bring it back.

According to NBC10 Philadelphia, Tom Whitman, the owner of 97-year-old Del Buono's Bakery and Carmen's Deli, purchased the McMillan's property and hired the grandson to revive the beloved bakery. The reopened McMillan's will carry the same family recipes as before, with the baked treats being available at Whitman's other bakeries.

Whitman said he will oversee business operations; Doug Biemiller, a member of the McMillan family, will handle baking and production, according to PhillyVoice. Whitman said he will spend approximately $700,000 to renovate the bakery space.

According to PhillyVoice, McMillan's was created in 1939 by Evelyn and George McMillan, and it was passed down through several generations. After the McMillan's oldest daughter, Arline Biemiller, died in 2023, the family decided to close the business because Biemiller did not want the bakery to be run by anyone outside of the family. The property was put up for sale last fall.

The Philadelphia Business Journal reported that Whitman has a well-established background in the baking business. In 2013, he purchased Del Buono's, dating to 1926, from Constantino Del Buono for nearly $4 million. He is also the owner of Carmen's Deli.
