PennDOT has announced that Ninth Street at Vine Street in Center City Philadelphia will close beginning Monday, Oct. 20, for significant roadwork. As part of an $8.5 million safety improvement project, the work will consist of roadway and utility construction.

According to MyChesCo, the 9th Street and Vine Street intersection will remain closed with 24-hour detours in place until Feb. 3, 2026. Starting Monday, Nov. 3, northbound motorists will be rerouted via Arch Street, 11th Street, and Vine Street, while southbound drivers will be directed through Callowhill Street or Ridge Avenue, 10th Street, and Vine Street.

The construction project includes lane reductions on Vine Street, signal upgrades, the addition of ADA-compliant ramps and bike lanes, and roadway repaving. All work is weather-dependent.

PennDOT reminds motorists to allow plenty of travel time during the duration of this project.
