The annual Newtown Holiday Parade will offer seasonal joy and wonder to attendees on Sunday, Dec. 7, starting at 12:15 p.m. at South State Street and the Stocking Works. This year's parade route will head north to Washington Avenue, onto Sycamore Street, and end at the corner of Sycamore Street and Durham Road.

The Newtown Holiday Parade marks the beginning of a broader holiday experience. Attendees will be encouraged to shop at local businesses and participate in post-parade activities, including a potential world-record attempt at The Green Parrot. You'll have to show up to find out what it will be.

Pre-parade family activities will feature face painting, balloons, treats, warm drinks, and other entertainment.

According to Newtown Business Association (NBA), parade participants and spectators are invited to dress as beloved characters from holiday films in celebration of these classic Christmas productions. Individuals may dress as Buddy the Elf, the Grinch, Frosty the Snowman, and others, but they are asked to refrain from appearing as Santa Claus. The one and only Santa will make his entrance at the end of the parade, riding on the back of a fire engine.

The NBA notes that, in past years, the parade has brought together more than 60 groups and over 1,800 participants.
