West Chester University (WCU) Opera Theatre will stage The Three Feathers on Friday, Nov. 14, and Saturday, Nov. 15. Performances will take place at the Wells School of Music, Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall, Philips Memorial Building, at 700 S. High St. in West Chester. Performance times are 7:30 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The opera, performed in English, follows the story of a shy princess as she journeys through the underworld. This charming, family-friendly opera is composed by acclaimed contemporary composer Lori Laitman with a libretto by Dana Gioia, the former U.S. Poet Laureate of California.

Tickets are free for children younger than 12 and for WCU students, faculty, and staff with a Ram Card. General admission is $10, and tickets are available on the WCU website.

In a statement shared with VISTA.Today, Director of Opera Nicholas Provenzale said, “We've been having so much fun learning this magical fairy-tale opera. The students have done a fantastic job preparing this complex yet beautiful score. Lori Laitman's music is so full of character and humor, making it a joy to direct.”

The Saturday, Nov. 15, performance will be presented in partnership with N.I.C.E. (Neuro-Inclusive Campus Environments) and will include a sensory-friendly craft activity in the lobby from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.

According to VISTA.Today, Laitman and Gioia have connections to West Chester University. Gioia was one of the founders of the WCU Poetry Conference, and Laitman's songs have been featured at past conferences.
