Philadelphia has received a broad funding package from federal, state, and city sources to boost tourism, economic activity, and infrastructure ahead of the 250th anniversary celebrations.
According to NBC10 Philadelphia, on Friday, Nov. 14, Congressman Brendan Boyle detailed the $850,000 in federal funds being used in Philadelphia's historic district to enhance the visitor experience, particularly for pedestrians from Franklin Square to Old City landmark sites.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro announced that $50 million from the state's recently approved budget will help Philadelphia prepare for the FIFA World Cup, the MLB All-Star Game, and the NFL Draft coming to Pittsburgh.
"Those events are going to be huge drivers of our economy and tourism and economic activity as millions of people will descend upon Pennsylvania," Shapiro said in a news conference.
NBC10 Philadelphia also reported that Independence Hall will be closed for the rest of the year for painting and cleaning as part of preparations for next year's milestone anniversary activities.
