Thanksgiving came early for several Camden, New Jersey, families, courtesy of Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jordan Davis. Davis hosted a Thanksgiving meal for more than 150 Camden residents at The Salvation Army Camden Kroc Center.

Davis was joined by his two brothers and mother, Shay Allen, to serve a full turkey dinner to families facing food insecurity, something he and his family have personally encountered.

"It was hard for my mom to make sure we had a meal every night, you know me and my brothers," Davis told CBS News Philadelphia. "Even nights she may have sacrificed a meal for herself, you know it was always meant for us to eat.

Allen expressed her gratitude to the Salvation Army for its past support of her family. "A couple times, the Salvation Army has helped us to have a Thanksgiving dinner ... Christmas presents the next time. It's just like I want to make sure he gives back to the people who gave to him," she told FOX29 News.

"I just hope I just inspire the next person to come out there and do their own thing," Davis stated. "It doesn't take much to give back to your community — just a little bit of time. Time is the most important thing."

After the meal, Davis joined local children in a flag football game, even taking a turn at quarterback. Davis' foundation also ensured every family left for home with a laptop computer and a turkey dinner.

"When Jordan comes in and helps, this is a really impactful thing. It's really going to put a dent in the food insecurity we see in the community," said Maj. Richard Sanchez from the Salvation Army, who spoke with FOX29.

When Thanksgiving arrives, as Davis gets ready to play Black Friday against the Chicago Bears, he'll also be helping out around the kitchen.

"The new tradition now is making mac and cheese, so I have a big task ahead of me," Davis said.
