Activate, billed as "the world's first active gaming experience," has opened its first New Jersey and Greater Philadelphia location in Cherry Hill, adding to a network of more than 50 venues worldwide. The Cherry Hill Escape-style room opened on Friday, Nov. 21.
The Cherry Hill site at 1509 Route 38 — inside the former Rite Aid — will feature immersive, light-up rooms with physical challenges like climbing walls, puzzles, and laser dodging.
Two to five people can participate in each session. See Activate's FAQs for more information.
In March, The Patch of Cherry Hill reported that families make up about 70% of Activate's customers, while the rest are groups of adult friends. The age minimum is 6; an adult must accompany children ages 6 to 13. Activate's website notes that the games are designed for adults and may be challenging for children younger than 10.
According to The Patch, Activate originated in Winnipeg in 2019 and plans to expand to approximately 200 more locations over the next decade across North America, Europe, and Dubai.
