Overnight closures on I-76 West lanes on the Schuylkill Expressway between 30th Street and I-676 will occur from Sundays through Thursdays, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., through June 1, 2026, to accommodate repair work on the Market Street bridge.

During the closures, drivers on I-76 will be directed to exit at 30th Street and use Schuylkill Avenue to reach ramps to I-76 West and I-676 East. Work will pause temporarily for the Christmas and New Year's Day holidays from Dec. 21 to Jan. 3, 2026.

The Market Street Bridge project, a $148.9 million effort that began in March, is expected to last about four years. According to PhillyVoice, work includes demolition and replacement of the bridge segment at Schuylkill Avenue West and Market Street, deck and sidewalk replacement over the Schuylkill River, and repair work on river and railway-facing sections.

Additionally, Market Street will undergo pavement work from Schuylkill Avenue West to 23rd Street. This portion of the project involves creating a new two-way bike lane with concrete barriers and bicycle signals. Crews will repair river walls and the pedestrian staircase linking the Schuylkill River Trail to JFK Boulevard.

Germantown Avenue and Logan Square Park

PhillyVoice also reported that pedestrian and vehicle access will be affected by closures around Germantown Avenue and Logan Square Park. Crews will perform lane and sidewalk work around Logan Circle for curb ramp reconstruction ahead of Philadelphia's 250th anniversary activities next year.

From Monday, Dec. 8, to Tuesday, Dec. 23, Germantown Avenue will close between Broad Street and Pike Street for the removal of embedded SEPTA trolley tracks and roadway repaving. Drivers traveling east will be redirected to Pike Street, 15th Street, and Butler Street; westbound drivers will need to use Butler Street, Broad Street, and Pike Street. Local access will remain open.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) reminds drivers to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check the 511PA website for current traffic conditions.
