FanSided picked Philadelphia 76ers fans as the 2025 Fandom of the Year. The award celebrates fan dedication. It came after a brutal stretch where loyalists stuck with their squad through a 24-win season and a roster wrecked by injuries.
Joel Embiid and Paul George battled injuries throughout the year. By March 16, the organization shut down both stars for the remainder of the season, with Tyrese Maxey following soon after.
Fans packed venues across the city on May 12 for the NBA Draft Lottery. The pick carried protection from selections one through six, meaning a bad lottery result would have sent the choice to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Things fell in their favor, securing the third overall selection for the first time since 2017.
The fanbase argued between VJ Edgecombe and Ace Bailey throughout May and June. Philadelphia selected Edgecombe on June 25. This gave supporters a core of Maxey, Edgecombe, Jalen McCain, and Quentin Grimes to rally behind.
The franchise sidelined its stars. They rolled out starting lineups featuring Oshea Brissett, Chuma Okeke, and Marcus Bagley during the final stretch of the 2024-25 season.
The 2025-26 season has brought better results, though. The squad holds a 14-11 record and sits in a position to qualify for the postseason.
Embiid and George are coming back after missing most of last season. The roster still lacks a clean health report, but the trajectory has improved from the low point in March.
