For many people from the Philadelphia region and beyond, visiting Peddler's Village during December is a holiday tradition.

The Bucks County dining, events, lodging, and shopping destination routinely attracts thousands of people to experience the sights and sounds of the holiday season.

The attraction's Grand Illumination, held this year on Nov. 14, is a much-anticipated event that caps off several months of a coordinated effort by village staff to string millions of lights throughout the village. The work begins in late summer, with extensive decorating, wiring, and precise timing to ensure all lights illuminate for the grand spectacular.

During the season, the village, which sits in Buckingham and Solebury townships, extends its hours and shops open until 9 p.m. on weekdays and 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The holiday lights herald the opening of many other displays and events that extend into January. Holiday activities include a gingerbread competition and display, a tradition that dates back more than 40 years.

“Our family has been visiting Peddler's Village at Christmas time for close to 30 years. We particularly enjoy the beautiful lights, manicured grounds, unique shops, and, of course, the gingerbread house display; the creativity, detail, and execution are always so impressive and never disappoint. It is a special holiday tradition for our family,” said Rose Leming, who visited with her adult daughter Jackie, to The New Hope Free Press.

In addition to the holidays, Peddler's Village also brings visitors to this attraction throughout the year. Guests can discover more than 60 independently owned shops, eight restaurants and dining establishments, the Golden Plough Inn, a 66-room hotel, and the Giggleberry Fair, an indoor family-fun center with an antique carousel.

Visitors Anthony and Carly Marotta said they visit throughout the year with their family. Their son Matteo, who has autism, loves the ball pit, book shop, and jaZam's toy store.

“This is his version of Disney World. It's his happy place,” said Carly, who has been visiting Peddler's Village since she was a child.
