Bullhide Brewery, at 761 Harding Highway (Route 40), has opened in Pilesgrove, New Jersey, opposite the Cowtown Rodeo and next to Cowtown Cowboy Outfitters.
The venue's tasting room adopts a farm-barn aesthetic with antler-inspired chandeliers. It is designed for events like line dancing, which debuted on Sunday, Dec. 21. A rear backyard and private porch offer views of a nearby horse farm.
According to 42Freeway.com, the brewery operates a 10-barrel system with a 20-barrel fermenter and a 20-barrel bright tank. This setup enables production and rotation of up to 10 beer varieties across 20 taps.
Five beers were available during opening weekend, Dec. 20-21. They include Bullhide Gold, a blonde ale at 4.7% ABV; the Stockyard Common, at 4.6% ABV; High Noon at Bullhide, a West Coast IPA (6.3% ABV); Midnight Corral, a Robust Porter (6.1% ABV); the All-Day Ranch Hand Session Pale Ale (3.7% ABV).
Owners Travis and Suzanne Zigo, who operate the adjacent Cowtown Outfitters Western store, developed the brewery across Harding Highway from the Cowtown Rodeo, highlighting the strong ties to local cowboy culture.
Brewer Mike McDonald, who brings experience from multiple breweries, including those in Maryland, leads the brewing team and plans future beers that spotlight New Jersey-grown grains and hops.
According to the brewery's website, McDonald draws inspiration from breweries like Human Robot. Their interpretation of old-world beers reminds him of the countries he's visited during his career and the beers he's sampled along the way.
