Shortly after 2026 arrives, drivers in New Jersey can expect to see changes in how they navigate the state's highways.

Cashless Tolls

The Atlantic City Expressway will soon switch to cashless tolling on Jan. 4, requiring E-ZPass for all drivers. Those without an E-ZPass will be charged a 100% surcharge on tolls. Notices will be mailed 30 days after the initial toll or once $50 in fees accumulates, plus a $1 administrative fee per bill and a $5 late fee if unpaid after 30 days.

Toll Rises on Turnpikes

Tolls on the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway will increase by 3% starting Jan. 1, 2026, with cashless tolling going into effect on Jan. 4.

No Increases on the Bridges

Tolls will remain unchanged on the Ben Franklin, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry, and Betsy Ross bridges, according to the Delaware River Port Authority.

The Delaware Memorial Bridge will undergo a two-phased toll hike beginning in 2027. However, rates will remain unchanged until 2027, the Delaware River & Bay Authority notes.

The first phase already took effect in 2025. During the second phase of this project, the toll rate could rise for all bridge travelers as early as Jan. 1, 2027.
