The West Chester Borough Police Department is seeking part-time communications officers and police dispatchers to staff its dispatch center. Positions remain open until filled.
These openings come amid ongoing staffing needs in emergency communications as call volumes rise and public expectations for rapid response increase.
All applicants must pass pre-employment drug screening, criminal background and credit checks, and document review by the borough and its agents.
Primary duties include interviewing callers under distress, documenting police activity, monitoring the lobby, assisting residents in person, and directing the public to appropriate borough departments.
According to MyChesCo, dispatchers will handle emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatch officers, monitor radio and video systems, and perform NCIC/CLEAN checks in coordination with the Pennsylvania State Police.
Positions are part-time and may include overnight shifts, weekends, 12-hour tours, and extra hours to cover staffing gaps. Work conditions include extended seating time at a radio console in a darkened operations room.
Candidates should possess a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver's license. Prior emergency dispatch experience and APCO certification are preferred but not required.
Compensation is $22 per hour.
Interested applicants should submit a cover letter and resume via email to Chief Communications Officer Joseph Miles at JMiles@west-chester.com.
