Delaware has been ranked a top moving destination for 2025. The First State ranked No. 4 in United Van Lines' 2025 National Movers Study, with roughly six in 10 moves into the state coming from elsewhere in the country.
According to the study, the primary motivations for inbound moves to Delaware are retirement (28%), followed by family considerations (34.9%), then cost (9.3%), health (7%), jobs (4.7%), and lifestyle (2.3%). Most inbound movers to Delaware are ages 65 or older, accounting for about 62.1% of the moves.
In Delaware, approximately 28.6% of inbound moves come from households earning $150,000 or more, while 25% originate from households earning $75,000 to $99,999.
According to The Delaware News Journal, the top inbound metropolitan statistical areas include Eugene-Springfield, Oregon (85%); Wilmington, North Carolina (83%); and Dover, Delaware's state capital (79%).
