A family from Doylestown is in the national spotlight through their appearance on HGTV's House Hunters.

The Bucks County Courier Times reported that Bucks County realtor Lauren Perno was originally approached by the show's producers to connect them with buyers who could be considered for the show. Perno and her husband, Mike, had been looking for a new home for more than a year, and she ultimately ended up suggesting her own family for the show's consideration.

The episode featuring the Pernos, which aired last Friday, Jan. 9, followed the family of five as they went house hunting for a new home in Doylestown.

The couple, who have three kids, DJ, Cecilia, and Sophia, were previously residing in a three-bedroom townhome in Doylestown. The growing family, whose children range in age from 2 to 14, said they needed a new home. Perno also explained her desire to stay in the Central Bucks School District, which serves nine municipalities in Bucks County, including Doylestown.

Here's how the website TV Regular describes the house-hunting dilemma:

"The wife has her heart set on a historic Craftsman-style house, filled with character and charm. She dreams of a home that reflects the rich history of the city and offers unique architectural details. Her vision includes cozy nooks, beautiful woodwork, and a welcoming atmosphere that a Craftsman home can provide.

"On the other hand, the husband has a different vision. He prefers a more modern, contemporary home located in the suburbs. His focus is on features like open floor plans and updated amenities that cater to a busy family lifestyle. He believes that a suburban setting would offer more space and a quieter environment for their children to grow up in."

Ordinarily, House Hunters pairs up homebuyers with local realtors for home searches, but Perno decided to take on the task herself.

"I would be more stressed out with somebody else doing it," she told the Courier Times. "I've been doing this for well over a decade — 13 years I've been a realtor — so I was just like, 'I've got this.'"
