No more watching, we are now in the warning zone. The National Weather Service has placed essentially the entire region under a Winter Storm Warning, as heavy snow and ice impacts are becoming clearer for this weekend.

"Heavy snow and mixed precipitation are expected," with snow accumulations between 8 and 12 inches are anticipated. The Warning is in effect for 7 p.m. Saturday, through 1 p.m. Monday.

The National Weather Service also anticipates "significant ice accumulation" that could cause many issues with power lines and downed trees.

Surrounding areas can expect 10-15 inches of snow, particularly Southern New Jersey and portions of Southeast Pennsylvania.

Some of those snowfall totals, particularly around Philadelphia, are down from Thursday's projections. That's largely because of more expected sleet and freezing rain, which lowers snowfall, but increases problems.

Important Updates:

  • The School District of Philadelphia has already announced closures for Monday, as impacts will easily be felt into next week.
  • The Archidiocese of Philadelphia will have a Flexible Instruction Day Monday.
  • PennDOT has placed a Tier 4 vehicle restriction for Pennsylvania highways starting at 12:01 a.m. Sunday. No commercial vehicles, buses, motorhomes or vehicles towing trailers.
