Downtown West Chester has ambitious plans for 2026, with America250 events and other major activities expected to bring thousands to southeastern Pennsylvania this year.

America250 remains a central focus for 2026. West Chester will leverage its proximity to Philadelphia to highlight community events and engage residents through activities like a time capsule, a tree dedication with a marker, and collaborations with West Chester University students.

Commemorative and cultural initiatives include hanging American flags on light poles, Dare to Declare public readings of the Declaration of Independence, and the Liberty Bell Art Work project. Planter pots will be flipped upside down, turning them into Liberty Bells that will feature patriotic-themed decorations.

Traditional marquee events with a red, white, and blue theme will continue. They include Up on the Roof, West Chester Taps, and Gallery Walks.

Outside of these commemorative, patriotic events, Restaurant Week will run from Feb. 22 to March 1, offering meals priced between $40 and $60 to promote local dining.

The Halloween Parade is set for Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m., with a rain date on Thursday, Oct. 29. Major national and international events, such as the Soccer World Cup, PGA Championship, and MLB All-Star Game, are expected to boost tourism in the region.

Downtown West Chester Executive Director John O'Brien explained to the Daily Local News that long-term plans for the organization and the West Chester community include creating a 4.7-mile pedestrian and bicycle trail connecting the historic Market Street train station to Glen Mills. This project would tie into rail discussions and consider the Turk's Head Trail in planning and potential rail restoration impacts.

As a community-driven organization, Downtown West Chester invites the public to get involved this year as America250 volunteers. To learn more, email O'Brien.
