Older residents across Philadelphia will soon be able to add some security at their front doors with doorbell ring cameras.

On Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the Firehouse Active Adult Center on Haverford Avenue, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker announced a partnership to distribute 1,000 Ring doorbell cameras with lifetime subscriptions to older residents through the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA) network.

The program rollout is expected in the coming weeks. PCA, which will coordinate eligibility updates and sign-up information once rollout begins, will also serve as the primary contact for enrollment details.

City officials said the program aims to expand access to theft-deterrent technology and improve emergency response for older adults aging in place.

According to Action News 6abc, Ring will also donate $20,000 to PCA to support the initiative. Cameras will be distributed through PCA's senior-center network.

Philadelphia is one of the first cities in the United States to pilot this new security initiative.
