The Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia is wrapping up Black History Month and moving into Women's History Month this weekend, Feb. 28 and March 1, as it shares untold stories and the contributions of people often overlooked in mainstream history.

Activities on Saturday, Feb. 28, will continue to highlight Black History Month. On Sunday, March 1, Women's History Month begins, focusing on stories surrounding Betsy Ross and the lesser-known female figures in her life.

"You go up to the bed chamber. You meet Betsy Ross as she secretly sews the flag," said Lisa Acker Moulder, the director of Betsy Ross House, in a statement shared with Action News 6abc. "Then you go down into the basement, where you learn about something else Betsy Ross did that was a treasonous act during the 18th century."

Moulder notes that the Betsy Ross House is focusing on revealing the stories of people whose histories are just as important as those of the nation's founders.

"We're telling the stories of the people you may not have heard of, the people who aren't in your history lessons, who aren't in history books, who don't necessarily have documentary series about them," she explained.

As Philadelphia and the nation gear up for the 250th anniversary celebrations of the United States this year, Moulder reports that the Betsy Ross House has already reached peak visitation so far this year as visitors seek meaningful connections to history and heritage.
