"Somewhere Over the Rainbow," "We're Off to See the Wizard," and many more beloved favorites from the film classic The Wizard of Oz are coming soon to Center City Philadelphia.
The Philadelphia Orchestra will perform the score to The Wizard of Oz live as the movie is shown on dual screen during two concerts at the Marian Anderson Hall inside the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. The performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 26, and 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 27.
According to PhillyVoice, the 1939 MGM film will screen above the stage while the Orchestra performs Harold Arlen and Herbert Stothart's score in sync with each scene, which includes Dorothy's Kansas farm and the Emerald City. Steven Reineke will conduct both of these performances.

According to the Philadelphia Orchestra, the production is the work of John Goberman, Emmy Award-winning producer of Live from Lincoln Center and the creator of the acclaimed A Symphonic Night at the Movies.
When it debuted in 1939, The Wizard of Oz was considered by many film critics to be a technical genius for MGM Studios. Today, the studio company has remastered the film classic for a new generation to enjoy.
During the June performance, guests will get to hear near transcriptions of Harold Arlen's lost scores. Hearing Judy Garland's original studio recordings, accompanied by live orchestrations, will captivate children and adults alike. With this version of The Wizard of Oz on the big screen, audiences will experience the Oscar–winning film in a new light.
Tickets are on sale now through the Philadelphia Orchestra's website.
