The 28th Schuylkill River Sojourn, a 112-mile guided kayak and canoe trek from Schuylkill Haven to Boathouse Row in Philadelphia, will celebrate the United States' 250th birthday.

According to Philadelphia Today, this year's event, organized by the Pottstown-based Schuylkill River Greenways, will take place from June 13–19. The Sojourn emphasizes the river's historical significance — from the American Revolution to industrial and environmental turning points — and educates participants about its role in American history.

Participants will receive three meals daily, starting with breakfast on the first paddling day, and will camp at watershed sites. Campers will set up and break down their gear, while Take It Outdoors will handle transporting their gear to the next site.

Participants will paddle between 14 and 18 miles each day. Programs and expert talks related to the river will be scheduled after meals.

According to The (Pottstown) Mercury, highly trained river guides will ensure the safety of all paddlers from the safety briefing in the morning to pulling boats out at the end of the day. CPR, first aid, and water-specific certifications will prepare participants to handle a wide range of situations on the water.  A lead boat will head up the trip, with a sweep following at the end to be sure all paddlers remain with the group.

Tickets are $130 per day per adult and $75 per day for youth under 16. For adults, the full-trip paddle is $775, and for those 16 and younger, it is $500.
