Philadelphia is about to step into the spotlight — literally under the big top — as the Philadelphia School of Circus Arts (PSCA) prepares to debut its new 10‑day World Circus Festival, running April 10 through April 19, 2026. Timed with World Circus Week and Philadelphia’s citywide 52 Weeks of Firsts celebration, the festival honors a historic milestone: America’s first circus performance took place in Philadelphia in 1793.

Hosted on Circus Campus at 6452 Greene Street in West Mt. Airy, the festival invites families, community members, and circus fans of all ages to experience thrilling performances, hands‑on workshops, youth programs, and special events — many of which are free or low‑cost.

Festivities kick off on Friday, April 10, with Test Flights, a no‑charge evening of contemporary circus works‑in‑progress by professional and student artists. Audiences will get a rare behind‑the‑scenes look at creative experimentation that blends theater, dance, music, and circus artistry.

On Saturday, April 11, PSCA partners with the Philadelphia Historic District 250th Committee for a free 52 Firstivals Celebration. From 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., visitors can enjoy aerial performances, family‑friendly circus activities, storytelling, and complimentary introductory workshops — all celebrating Philadelphia as the birthplace of American circus arts.

Throughout the week, community programming includes Juggling Club, circus after‑school drop‑ins, half‑day youth circus programs, pop‑up pole workshops, and specially priced $5.20 Intro to Circus classes in honor of Philly 250.

The celebration culminates on Saturday, April 18, with the World Circus Day Spectacular Finale, featuring two pay‑what‑you‑can performances. The 5:00 p.m. show, From History to Gritty, is family‑friendly, while Nitty Gritty at 8:30 p.m. offers a bold, adult‑themed cabaret. Proceeds from both shows benefit The Attic Youth Center, supporting LGBTQ youth in Philadelphia.

As part of Philadelphia’s America 250 and Philly 250th celebrations, World Circus Week shines a spotlight on the city’s growing contemporary circus scene — and invites everyone to witness, learn, and be part of the magic.
