The American Red Cross is urging residents of Chester County to consider donating blood or platelets as spring travel and seasonal events threaten to affect the area's blood supply.

“It's critical that donors make and keep appointments in the weeks to come to help the blood supply stand up to any seasonal disruptions or challenges,” said Paul Sullivan, senior vice president of donor services for the Red Cross, in a statement shared with MyChesCo.

According to the Red Cross, all blood types are needed as the Red Cross currently accounts for about 40% of the nation's blood supply.

To encourage blood donations, the organization is offering a limited-edition T-shirt to donors who give blood between Monday, March 30, and Sunday, April 12. The campaign is held in partnership with Life is Good, according to MyChesCo.
