Penn Medicine Doylestown Health, in partnership with dermatologists Mary Toporcer and Shannon Wiedersum, is offering a free skin cancer screening during Skin Cancer Awareness Month in May.
The screening will be held on Tuesday, May 5, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Penn Medicine Doylestown Health Cancer Institute, 599 W. State St., Suite 307, in Doylestown.

According to a Patch of Doylestown report, the program is open to individuals with no insurance or with high deductibles or copays who have not had a skin screening in the last two years. It is not intended for people currently under a dermatologist's care.
Registration is required, and space is limited. Interested individuals should call 267-885-1580 to register.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. At least one in five Americans will develop skin cancer by age 70, making annual screenings important for early detection.
“Although skin cancer is very common, the survival rates increase dramatically when the disease is caught early,” said Wiedersum. “Routine skin cancer screenings can identify pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions in their early stages and will help you learn to better examine your own skin.”
