Philadelphia's parks will get some extra-special TLC in May during Love Your Park Week, May 9-17.
Organized by the Fairmount Park Conservancy and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, the event will mobilize more than 100 volunteers across the city, focusing on park maintenance, including trash pickup, tree care, and planting flowers.
The week will include free and low-cost outdoor activities such as bird walks, photography workshops, and family paddle boating.
A significant volunteer event is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fotterall Square in North Philadelphia. Activities will include planting, cleanup, food, music, and kids' activities.
According to a PhillyVoice report, volunteer projects will be held at numerous parks across the city. They include Tacony Creek Park, Pretzel Park, Weccacoe Playground, Malcolm X Park, Rail Park, Wissahickon Environmental Center, and FDR Park.
Participation is open to everyone, and no prior experience is required. Tools and gloves will be provided. Volunteers can sign up online in advance of the events.
